Ian Coghill

Ian was born and brought up in the industrial Midlands. After university he went into public service, as what is now known as an Environmental Health Officer. After spending some time enjoying the rougher side of local government, he rose through the ranks ending his 42 year career as Director of Community Safety and Environmental Services for Birmingham City Council.

A life long conservationist and a keen participant in country sports, he had a long association with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and following his retirement he became its Chairman, a position he held for a decade, and which enabled him to observe at first hand the pressures which the countryside and its wildlife are under.
