John Thornley OBE has been a keen country sports enthusiast for many years with a passion for stalking fallow deer. He has been responsible for their management over a number of Estates both in the UK and Germany. He has written extensively for the shooting press particularly in respect of the risks associated with deer managment, and provided both training and lectures. He has investigated shooting accidents and previously served with the Derbyshire Constabulary, retiring as Superintendent. He now acts as a consultant on countryside law and deer management.
He is the chairman of Deer Management Qualifications (DMQ), a member of the BASC Council and a Trustee of the Deer Initiative. In 2000 John was awarded the OBE for Services to the Protection of Wildlife. His previous titles for Quiller, together with co-author Charlie Parkes include Fair Game – The Law of Country Sports and the Protection of Wildlife and Deer Law & Liabilities.
